Re: Alternator swap, how? First thing you need is a code reader and then go from there. Alternators hardly ever fail on Stilos and the power steering failure is nearly always linked to supposed alternator failure (it's still safe to assume insufficient power is being supplied to power steering though - which at least is a clue).

Aug 6, 2006. #7. The power steering on stilo, seicento, punto, grande, panda and idea are all electric. They work by using a motor to drive the steering column when assistance is needed. This means they take alot of current and as such can only be allowed to work when the alternator is charging, no charge no epas.

For the battery/alternator thing, check that the small cable to the alternator is intact and actually connected (it's a lucar at the alternator end, so easy to inadvertently pull out). If it becomes disconnected, the battery simply won't charge. One thing though, that alternators hate, is being soaked in hot coolant.
Swap the belt over. Stick the senor back in (clean up the metal bracket first to make the insertion much easier). Do the bolt up on the underside of the sensor that attaches the plastic of the sensor to the metal engine block. Tension your new belt.
